Design trends for 2018 – What’s in and What’s out

Is your home on trend? Check out these new design trends for 2018!

As many of you have already noticed, home design trends look to be more bold than years before. According to many industry experts, you’ll be seeing design trends such as luxe velvet, vivid jewel tones and brass complimented with organic accents. Always remember to stick with what you love, regardless of what’s in or out. If your goal  is to refresh your home with a new coat of paint or to add a pretty piece of furniture or to update your kitchen or bath, you may want to try one of these top design trends.

Kitchen cabinetry

What’s Out – All White Kitchens

Although white kitchens will always be a classic color choice, warm wood tones, and other colors such as gray, warm neutrals and shades of blue will dominate the new kitchen color palette. Rich and unique tend to be what is emerging in kitchen colors.

design trend outdated painted accent walls

What’s Out – Accent Painted Walls

In the 80’s and 90’s accent walls were an instant way to make a room look like it was decorated.  But instead, try incorporating a textured wall or wainscotting made from milled wood or wainscoting on one wall in a room. ( According to Houzz, both are trending for 2018). Textured ceilings will add a punch of interest to your rooms as well. Our color consultation services are available to help you discover a pop of color for your home.

word art accessories

What’s Out – Word Art

Although sentimental sayings on pillows and fun signs are a quick way to add a focal point to a room, they are becoming a little overdone according to some designers.  The exception to this would be certain objects such as vintage signs and other objects that have been re purposed into art. Try expressing yourself in less literal ways  in 2018. Try an unusual piece of wall art or a special accessory that you found on a recent trip. Get creative!

architectual features

What’s out – Architectural Objects Randomly placed

Before buying that barn door or other architectural element at a local barn sale, be sure it will blend with the style of your home. If your home is traditional don’t put a barn door on the wall. Likewise avoid installing traditional beams and formal columns in a suburban space. These design trends look fabulous in the right setting but misplaced in the wrong one.

design trends kitchen cabinet color palette

What’s in- Heavy Kitchen Cabinetry

Being in the market to update my own kitchen, I’m seeing a lot of cabinetry in the new kitchen design trends. Open cabinetry is taking a step back to this new kitchen design trend for 2018. Remember too, the warmer tones are stepping up in the kitchen color palette.

ultra violet color of the year

What’s In – Cozy Colors

Dark and cozy hues are setting the tone according to Pantone, who just just named Ultra Violet its Color of the Year.  Sherwin-Williams selected Oceanside SW 6496 which is similar to an emerald green/blue shade. These hues will showing up as rich velvet on sofas or an accent chair or a velvet throw or pillow. Each of these hues has an exciting and energetic feel to them as we head into 2018. If these vivid hues seem a bit too overpowering, consider the calmer versions of each of these hues such as lilac or a softened version of emerald green. These colors work well in quieter spaces such as the bedroom.
design trends brass

What’s In – Brass

Whether you love it or hate it, or you’ve seen it in the past or its brand new to you, brass is back and better than ever in the new year. The aged finish adorns kitchen cabinets and living room furniture and shines as serve ware and vintage-inspired light fixtures alike. Try mixing it in with other colorful accessories.

Do what you Love!

Regardless of what’s in or out in design trends, its important that your home reflects who you are and what you love! From beautiful accessories to your favorite color palette, every home can be designed to look and feel fabulous!

Fall Trends That Are Taking Over This Year

It’s time to get ahead of the game and start preparing for your fall home décor makeover!

The stores are clearing their shelves of summer home décor to make room for fall. A great way to get started is by reading my list of 2018 fall trends!

Bolder and brighter hues are on the horizon for this fall

blu-chair-accent-furniture-fall-decor-ch interior designs
Blue and Orange what a complimentary combination!

Brighter and bolder are going to be a big hit for fall trends this year.   How do you pull this off with success you might ask? Try pairing this blue hue  with cinnamon and orange, natural woods, and cream. In addition, I recommend starting small with this hue and see how you like it in your interiors before adding more. A few additional items in  these colors I suggest looking for are: candle sticks, lanterns, window treatments, throw pillows and blankets. Stop by my new retail boutique or send me a message if you’d like more help implementing one of these colors to your home!

Add mood with matte black

fall-farmhouse-home-decor-CH Interior Designs-Waynesville-Ohio
Beautiful Farmhouse fall decor

Ah-ha, another color to keep your eyes peered for this fall! This one can be rather easy to bring to your fall style this year. I love matte black light fixtures and recommend looking for these if you’re wanting to add some matte black this season. The black color adds a dark tone of fall, while lanterns, lamps and lighting add warm hues to your interiors during those chilly days and nights!

Cozy up the bedroom or living room with prints and fur

home-decor-accessories-ch interior designs-waynesville-ohio
Colorful pillows and cozy throw

My favorite way to add new style and flare to a bedroom this fall is with pillows and throws!  If you’re wanting a fall bedroom to like you’ve seen in the magazines, mix and match. Bedding sets are on a decline, while mixing and matching colors and textiles are on the rise. By creating your own look you will add a sense of unique style to your bedroom – plus it can be a lot of fun! I recommend trading your white sheets or coverlet for patterns or solids.  Also, if you’re like me and love a cozy retreat, faux fur throw blanket or pillows are a fantastic way to complete your cozy oasis.

From copper to brass

brass-coffee-table-home-decor-furniture-ch interior designs-wayensville ohio
Brass Coffee table adds brightness to a room!

Copper has been trending in home decor for sometime now, and while copper is quite timeless, the trend has recently changed to brass. Although brass is quite similar to copper, it does have a lighter tone to it. Similar to the copper trend, you can add brass to your home décor through furniture accents, and accessories. This is a great way to start a new fall trend in your home.

Smooth and silky velvet

Violet armchair over pale green wall

Velvet is a luxurious looking and feeling fabric that you just can’t keep your hands off of. This fabric is sure to be a perfect way to welcome fall into your interiors! The thing I love about velvet is that it doesn’t take much to make a statement. For example, by adding one piece of velvet furniture or a couple accessories the mood of your interior will change. Furthermore, if you’re seeking to add a visual wow factor, a little luxe and a sense of coziness, velvet is the way to go.

cropped-ch-interiors-logo1

Remember, your home and interiors are most importantly about your style and what you like. Just because these are trending, doesn’t mean you need to go and throw out all of spring’s trends. Nor do you need to implement every trend every season. Similarly, some trends you will like, others you won’t, and that’s okay! In contrast, trends are a great way to keep up with refreshing your style and trying new things. Finally, I hope you enjoy some of the fall trends this year, and let me know how I can help you with transforming your home for the fall season.

Tell me what you think! What is your favorite way to get your home ready for fall? Are you ready to start a new design project but not sure where to start? Send me an email or call to schedule a consultation today!

Yikes! 5 Common Interior Design Mistakes to Learn From

Check out our list of common interior design mistakes before starting your next project and spare yourself the painful interior design mistakes!

1.  Ignoring Function

Small_Furniture_DSC_7746

A well-designed room is great, but if it is dysfunctional and frustrating, it will hardly be worth it. Believe it or not, functionality is often overlooked when planning interior design projects. For example, an entertainment room lacking rugs, window treatments, and other sound absorbing materials, is likely to be a pain. Likewise, a beautiful office lacking good lighting isn’t going to be of much use.

Small_Great Room_DSC_7705

Furthermore, make sure you’re considering where your guests will sit and move about in your common areas. Will they be able to walk easily throughout the home? Are there plenty of places to set a cup of tea or a snack while watching TV? These are all things you must consider when designing your interiors.

2.  Drab Color Scheme

Another common mistake we see is a poor color scheme or lack of one entirely. While the crisp and clean look is desirable, you need to consider a color scheme to ensure your bright and airy room doesn’t end up looking boring. Adding a color scheme can be rather simple by adding in throw blankets, throw pillows, curtains, and accessories. These are all easily interchangeable and add something interesting to your interiors. While it may be simple, it does take time and planning in order to be successful.

IMG_7282(2)

Look around your room; is there a color you can easily mix in with your current look? Should you get rid of a few items to clear a slate for a new color scheme? From there, decide on a color scheme you want to incorporate. In addition, take photos of your interiors to reference back on while you’re shopping. This can be helpful in visualizing what your new look will be, and help when deciding how to place items throughout the room. Lastly, pay careful attention on placing your color scheme throughout your room, rather than on one shelf or area. A color scheme is meant to tie your room together into one cohesive look.

3.  Too Much In One Place

Small_Dining_DSC_7682

One of the most dangerous interior design mistakes you can make is over furnishing and over decorating. Some individuals have so many wonderful collections of furniture, lamps, and accessories that they want to show it all off! While we understand wanting to show off all your beloved items, we encourage you to choose less.

One technique you can try is making a list of all your favorite home items, circle 10 of your favorites, and then choose 5 of your top favorites. From there, make sure to highlight those top 5 items while keeping the rest for another room, another time, or it may even be time to sell them for new items! By choosing less, you’re able to really highlight those favorite items by keeping clutter around them at bay. We know this may be tough at first, but we assure you those favorite items will be noticed a lot more when you’ve cleared some room to let them shine!

4.  Outdated Accessories

door knobs 2

Whether we like it or not, there is a time for getting rid of the old and adding in the new and updating your spaces. Likewise, if you have outdated cabinets, accessories, drapes, and lighting, it’s really going to date your interiors. Many of our clients often overlook the importance of the little details. For example, they paint the walls and get new furniture and accessories, but don’t understand why their interiors don’t look quite right. The reason is often all those little outdated accessories getting in the way. Therefore, the solution is often replacing old lights, and updating curtains, cabinets and hardware.

We understand there’s a time and a budget for everything, but make sure you consider updating those outdated details when you’re trying to re-design. Plus, updating your lights, hinges, and cabinet hardware doesn’t have to cost you a fortune. If you’re willing to spend a little time on it, there are many spectacular spray paints you can purchase and easily update those rusted gold details with a fresh gold, silver, or bronzed copper!

5.  Not Hiring a Professional When Necessary

small_design-center22_dsc_5953.jpg

As we previously mentioned, there are many simple and affordable ways to update your interiors. However, big or advanced projects often require a professional for the best planning and execution. Or if you’re just not sure where to start, a professional can guide you along to help you avoid these mistakes along with many others. In addition, professionals will help ease the stress and uncertainty of a re-design and can instill confidence in you about your project. To read more about what a professional can provide, check out our blog on Interior Designers!

5 Fresh Farmhouse Accessories to Add to Your Homestead

The farmhouse style has been trending for some time, and we don’t anticipate it going away anytime soon. What’s not to love? This style is all about bright and fresh colors, lots of plants, and cute signage! If you’re looking to add the farmhouse style to your home, then look no further. We have listed out all the accessories you need to get started.

lighting kal

  1. Farmhouse Lamps and Lighting:

One easy way to begin adding new or additional farmhouse pieces to your home is with lamps and chandeliers! This takes minimal effort and lighting can be found in a variety of price ranges. Furthermore, lamps and chandeliers are a great place to add a lot of personality in the room. For the farmhouse look, you’ll be looking for one of the following:

  • Wood
  • Black metal
  • Glass
  • Ceramic
  • White or cream lampshades

In order to attain the rustic look, wood lamps should not be a shiny and polished color. Rather, they should be flat in color, have texture, or be whitewashed. In addition, rustic glass tends to have wood accents, black wiring/netting, or a print/color that is similar to mason jars. Lastly, for ceramic pieces, you should be sticking to white bases with a simple design.

basket with birds

  1. Baskets and Bins:

We are firm believers that you cannot have too many baskets and bins. Due to the fact that they are fantastic for hiding your things while keeping your space looking clean and organized. Therefore, for the farmhouse look you need to be on the lookout for these storage accessories:

  • Black Metal Wire Baskets
  • White Wooden Bins
  • White Washed Baskets
  • Wooden bins
  • Wooden crates
  • Totes with farmhouse animal prints
  • Light colored woven baskets

In addition, if you top any of these off with a chalkboard sign, you’ve really succeeded the farmhouse look!

mirror wood and galvanize

  1. Galvanized Accessories:

Metal tubs, buckets, pails, and accessories are sure to bring the farmhouse look to your home. However, it’s important to note that galvanized décor adds a very rustic look. Thus, depending on how rustic you want your farmhouse look to be, you will add more or less. For example, some clients prefer a more cottage farmhouse look, which requires more white and wood tones with minimal metal décor. On the other hand, some prefer a more outdoor farmhouse rustic look requiring more galvanized décor. So, whether you’re adding a lot or a little, here are some galvanized items to look for:

  • Clocks (this is a great way to add a lot of rustic appeal with one piece)
  • Tubs
  • Planters
  • Wall Baskets
  • Dining Chairs
  • Mirrors
  • Trays (for kitchen treats or your coffee table!)

sign life

  1. Express Yourself with Signage:

A farmhouse sign paired with galvanized planters and fresh flowers is a match made in heaven. First of all, when it comes to farmhouse signage, the sky seems to be the limit. From bold words to a favorite quote, there are many options to choose from. Farmhouse signage tends to be black, white, or gray with a wooden frame. Furthermore, they should have a clean and fresh appeal that brightens up a room. In contrast, any signs with bright colors or busy patterns are harder to design around and will stray from the simplicity that is farmhouse style. Here are a few examples of signs to look for:

  • Big bold Lettering (BATH, LAUNDRY, FAMILY, MARKET)
  • A quote or phrase in pretty scripted lettering (blessed, our nest, happiness is homemade)
  • Farmhouse Phrases (freshly baked pies, fresh eggs, farm fresh dairy)

From big to small, you can find farmhouse signs in all shapes and sizes. Also, signs aren’t just for hanging. You can also place small wooden or metal signs to accent shelves and end tables to complete the look.

vases with greens

  1. Freshly Picked Florals:

A farmhouse style isn’t complete without some flowers or wreaths. Likewise, to achieve the fresh and simple farmhouse style you should stick to florals and plants such as:

  • Cotton
  • Large white flowers
  • Ferns
  • Sage
  • Olive Branches
  • Ficus
  • Boxwood Topiary

Place any of these in planters such as a wire basket, reclaimed wood box, galvanized vases, or as a wreath. Flowers bring the fresh outdoors to your interiors, and farmhouses simply aren’t complete without them!

These 5 accessories are sure to bring the farmhouse style to your interiors! Remember, this style is all about simplicity and keeping things organic. Also, mixing and matching these accessories is essential to achieve the farmhouse look. However, if you’re not sure where to start, try finding an accessory from each of lists above and build your farmhouse style from there! If you’re feeling uncertain or would like additional help, simply contact us! Our experienced interior designer, Brenda Weber, will be happy to work with you and achieve your desired look.

Best 4th Ever: Dazzling Decorations for your Gatherings

We know you love the fourth of July, so we’ve got some ideas to make it the best one yet! Decorating for the 4th is relatively simple: add red, white, blue and American flags and you’ve got a patriotic home. While that’s true, we’re here to make sure your décor looks clean and tasteful, not cheap and tacky!

Sweet cake pops

Tasty Tribute:

Who doesn’t love a tasty treat? Decorating with candy is a clever idea that’ll keep your guests smiling. We have a few ideas for you on this topic. For starters, use some glass jars or vases (which can be used as décor for all seasons by the way). Next, fill them with red, white, and blue M&M’s or gumballs. In addition, patriotic colored tootsie pops in small metal buckets is another favorite of ours! If you’re a treat expert, you know you’ve got to have both salty and sweet. Try using different sized vases for yogurt-covered pretzels, licorice, and blue candies. Finally, wrap your treat filled vases in a pretty ribbon or top with an American flag and you’ve got yourself a wow-worthy treat station!

Custom Floral Arrangements

Forever Florals:

It’s likely you’re going to be outside for some, if not most of your 4th. Therefore, you can’t forget about adding some outdoor symbolism! This can be done relatively quickly by first purchasing some vases or metal buckets and tubs. Next, head to your favorite floral shop for some red, white, and blue flowers. Then place your pretty flowers near the front door or on your steps, and top them with an American flag to welcome your party guests with great declaration! You can even take this cute idea to your tabletops by using smaller floral arrangements. Here’s a tip: if you’re having trouble finding patriotic colored vases, you can use clear vases you already own and try putting food coloring in the water, thus adding those celebration colors to your décor!

Happy Fourth of July dining table place setting

Symbolic Setting:

If you’re anything like us, you absolutely adore a beautiful place setting at the table. Don’t worry, you don’t need to go out and buy all new dishes and tableware to be patriotic this summer. If you have a patriotic colored table runner, tablecloth, or napkins lying around, you can start with one of those items and then work around it. Be warned, there is such a thing as too much red, white, and blue – so make sure you create a good balance.

Layers, contrast of colors, and a centerpiece are the ingredients to a pretty place setting. Place mats are a great starting point. From there, begin layering plates by color or size. If you have plates that are all the same color, you can break them up by placing a cute bandana or napkin in-between the layers. Next, place a small decoration or treat at each place setting. This can be a bag of candy with a flag, utensils wrapped in a pretty napkin, or anything you can imagine! Lastly, you’ll need a good centerpiece. For an affordable route, baskets filled with confetti, flowers, and flags are sure to spruce things up. In addition, lanterns, candlesticks, or vases are also a great way to go for your symbolic centerpiece!

patriotic buckets

Dazzling Décor:

You have a lot of options when it comes to patriotic décor and accessories – how do you choose? While we believe you can make inexpensive 4th of July décor look cute, we want to ensure your 4th of July decorating looks fabulous! That’s what here for, after all. Accessories are important; they are the little details that bring everything together. Dollar store decorations can go terribly wrong, or incredibly right. Thus, we recommend using them as small additions, not the grand look. For example, rather than purchasing a flimsy sign, be looking for cute chalkboards you can write messages on and add some décor around. You should also opt for a few wooden or metal decorations rather than poor quality lanterns or pinwheels that are likely only going to last you a few hours!

Here are some dazzling decorations we recommend: Wreaths, wooden signs, block letters, throw pillows, chalkboards, candles, wooden or metal stars, patriotic place settings and napkins, and small American flags! As a reminder, not everything needs to be red, white, and blue. Make sure to keep the look clean and tasteful by breaking up these colors and patterns to avoid creating a cluttered look.

Most importantly, don’t forget to have some fun! Decorating and designing for various holidays should be a joy, not a burden. If you find yourself stressed over interior decorating, schedule a consultation with our in-house experienced interior designer and feel all your worries melt away! Ready to get out there and start shopping for your 4th of July décor? Stop by our shop to browse all our unique and high quality accessories.

We want to hear from you! What is your favorite way to decorate for the 4th of July?

Displaying Collections: Show Your Personality in Style

Displaying collections tell your story – what you love, where you’ve been, who you are – and, they can quickly become a chaotic mess. But you can display collections in style! Here are 6 easy steps on how to display your collections. The following tips will have your prized possessions taking center stage in no time.

wall art blue

  1. GROUP OBJECTS BY THEME

Grouping objects by theme, a common element (E.g. color or style), or subject matter helps to connect them. If your collection is bigger than your space, pull out your favorites to display, box up the rest, and rotate them every few months.

  1. CREATE A GALLERY WALL

Use that wall space! You have empty canvases throughout your home. Don’t waste the real estate. For example, whether you collect crosses, plates or cutting boards, display your favorite collections by hanging them on a wall. You can also stagger each item according to size and subject matter.

accessories

  1. SHELVES, CABINETS, BUILT-INS

With little nooks throughout the grid, built-ins and cabinets are a great way to display your collections! Displaying collections on a shelf, paint the back wall a contrast color to bring more attention to your collection. If your items are mostly solid colors try adding pattern behind them to add more visual interest.

Display old glass bottles, glass perfume bottles on a deep window sill or on a shelf in front of a window and see your collection sparkle! In addition, think about the horizon. Create visual triangles at varying heights so your eye travels from item to item.

  1. MAGNETIC ART

Whether it’s a vacation trinket, your veterinarian’s emergency information or your child’s artwork, magnets are everywhere! Don’t cringe every time you open the refrigerator door. Even magnets can transition into a fun artistic element. Take back your fridge, and give those magnets a home! Sheet metal can turn mismatched magnets into a piece of art. Keep it simple with a strip of sheet metal or spice it up and have it cut into a shape, for instance the United States, and showcase your travels.

  1. SEE THROUGH

Whether you’re showing off shells from the beach, vintage dice, or your collection of wine corks, glass jars and lanterns offer great storage and beauty. There are so many shapes and sizes to choose from. Get creative and turn your favorite collection into a focal point.

shells

  1. FRAME IT

Lastly, display small items like shells, buttons or jewelry inside a frame. Or, hang old metal keys inside an open back frame (You can just remove the glass and back from a frame you already have too!). For those precious mementos, or fragile items like clothing and printed material, protect and display in a shadow box!

These are just a few ideas to get your creative juices flowing, however the possibilities are endless. Tell us about your displayed collections or which tip you’ll try to create your visual masterpiece!

Let’s Get Personal: It’s All in the Accessories

If interior design is not your thing (or maybe you love it but you’re doubting your ability), you may struggle with accessorizing your room. What do you put on the coffee table, your sideboard or buffet? And the bookshelves, they’re for books, right? Wrong! Mix up books and your favorite things.

Adding accessories to a room is your chance to spice it up with your personality…. a chance to tell your story and fill your home with what you love! Check out our go-to accessories and tips for an easy transition.

Check out our list of go-to accessories that will enhance any room.

  1. Floral Arrangements – From casual to contemporary, fresh or silk flowers will bring vibrancy, and life into any room. Pick coordinating colors, or bring an accent color into your room through your arrangement for added interest. Look for unusual containers that can also enhance the theme of the room.

While fresh flowers offer many benefits, they may not always be a feasible option for some. Faux flowers have gotten a bad rap over the years. Forget the fake ferns from the 50’s! Silk arrangements can look just as beautiful as the real thing.

  1. Accent Rugs – Area rugs have a lot of responsibilities. They define spaces, add warmth and comfort underfoot, reign in the elements from a room and tie them all together, and add pops of color and style to any room in your home. Take colors from the rug and add coordinating throw pillows and a throw to your sofa. Area rugs can make or break a room. Choosing the right area rug is the key to success.

rug round

  1. Wall Art – It’s in the eye of the beholder. Start with a large-scale piece over a sofa, bed, or fireplace. Choices could range from an over-sized clock, a starburst mirror, a metal decorative medallion, to the more traditional framed art or canvas. You can also group together smaller pieces of art to create a focal point.

wall art blue

  1. Ceramic and Pottery Pieces – A beautiful bowl, vase, or charger can stand alone or be paired with other items to add a focal point. Add decorative spheres to a ceramic bowl to incorporate color and texture. Use a ceramic vase to hold those fresh or faux flowers (Make sure your vase is made for water!) Chargers are perfect for displaying an array of candles. Or, using plate hangers, chargers can quickly transition into wall art. Choices can range from modern to globally inspired rustic looks.

small_design-center14_dsc_5886

5.   Blankets – Get cozy and add a touch of softness to your room with blankets and  throws. Drape over a sofa, chair, or ottoman to easily add color and texture. Layer with pillows for more depth or stack several blankets in a basket beside a sofa or under a table. Let’s face it, on a cold rainy day, who doesn’t want a blanket close at hand.

6.  Candlesticks -Display candlesticks on a sideboard, or entry table. Choose similar ones in varying heights, or use a grouping of different candlesticks for a more eclectic vibe. Oversized candlesticks are a stunning addition to a fireplace hearth. Add colorful candles for a pop of color.

img_4110

  1. Branches – If you love nature, bring the outdoors in with branches! These low maintenance accessories come in all shapes, sizes and colors. And, there are a variety of ways to display them. Arrange branches in containers, hang them directly on walls or display them on a pile of books on your coffee table. Add a small upward light on the floor to shine through the branches at night for a dramatic effect. It will be stunning!
  1. Family photos/Collections – Displaying family photos or your favorite collections show guests who you are, where you’ve been and what you love. Rather than randomly scattering them throughout your room, group clusters on a table or shelf for a more organized and clean look.

4.jpg

You’ve got the bling, now think about these three tips to dress your room right.

  1. It’s all in the numbers. Use odd numbers when grouping items. When all else fails, think three! Grouping three items together will keep your space clean and balanced.
  2. Think about the horizon. Placing items at varying heights will create a horizon that takes your eye from one item to the next. Pull those books off the shelves, and use them to add interest and height. Stack one, two or three books to give your accessories a lift.
  3. It’s time to clean! Cleaning and maintenance are often overlooked when accessorizing a home. Think about what it will take to maintain the beauty of your accessories.

Get more ideas and inspiration here. You’ve got this—now, start accessorizing!

IMG_3855_sRGB
First thing’s first, in order to go coastal with your interiors this summer, you need to get the color scheme down. This season, popular beachy colors include white, gray, light blue, cream, and navy! The coastal theme is all about looking bright, open, sunny, and relaxing. Therefore, try not to focus too much on any one of these colors. In order to pull of the beach house look successfully, you’ll need to mix and match and have some fun with it! Otherwise, your project won’t turn out the way you’ve been seeing in pictures. As a result, by paying attention to this color scheme while doing your shopping, your new beach house look is sure to be a success!

Anchors, Starfish, Whales – Oh My!

IMG_4367
The coastal look demands that you be more neutral with your colors. However, it also allows you to go big with your wall décor. You should be hunting for adorable anchor pieces, along with whale, ocean, and fish wall prints. Try searching for beachy prints in crisp white frames to add a higher quality look. In addition, shadow boxes with shells and sand dollars are a great way to go! The coastal look has become quite popular in recent years, so you should have no problem finding some unique wall décor.

Throw In Some Fun:

IMG_3856_sRGB
The best thing about throw pillows and blankets is in the name. You simply purchase them and “throw” them in! While we all know you can’t just throw in pillows and expect it to look nice, you get what we mean! As a result, you’ll need to intentionally place your throw accessories to make it look effortless, yet pleasing to the eye. Likewise, by throwing a blanket over the sofa or bed, and adding in a couple of coastal print throw pillows, you’ll quickly pull together the coastal look. Throw accessories are that simple!

Don’t Forget the Seashells and Sand:

Remember what we said about bringing the beach to you? Adding beachy accessories is a great way to bring pieces of the ocean to you while adding to your coastal theme. For a centerpiece, try looking for glass containers that you can add sand, shells, and a candle to. In addition, a couple beach accessories that tend to be forgotten are roping and baskets. For example, candlesticks with roping and small wicker baskets will instantly add a beach vibe. Finally, another easy idea is to find some cute bowls and fill them with shells, sand dollars, and starfish!

Spring Interior Trends We are Obsessed With

Spring officially arrived on March 20th, and we are LOVING the trends for this season. Just reading about these chic items has us squirming anxiously in our seats to share them with you. Only picking up a few new pieces for the spring season, you are sure to feel those winter blues melting away. Now get out a pen and paper – you will want to write this down!

  1. Copper

Copper is in this spring, and it is demanding a presence in your home!  Copper lamps and home décor accessories you have likely seen popping up in décor magazines everywhere, and we love it too! For example, adding a copper piece demands attention in any space and lucky for us, it is very versatile. Keep in mind that with copper, you will want to make sure you are regularly doing an exceptional cleaning on those pieces to keep their golden shine you will need to treat your copper with a protective finish. If you are on the hunt for that unique eye catcher in your home, we certainly recommend adding a contemporary copper accent piece or two!

2. Climbing Plants

Not just any plants are climbing plants! This season it is time to let your vines grow, ditch the trimmers, and see where they go! Place them up high on shelves and let the vines hang loose this spring. This trend is one you can get excited about; there are so many options of plants, pots, and placements to experiment with! Don’t have time to waste tending to indoor plants?  Try a Pothos plant; they are very easy going with big beautiful green leaves. If you are a plant lover, try buying a few plant accessories, such as beautiful pastel pots, and add in some adorable succulents! Succulents are also very limited maintenance and come in a wide variety of styles, colors, and looks.

3. Chic Marble Wallpaper

Just when you thought the days of wallpaper were over it makes a comeback and ultimately redeems itself!  This marble wallpaper trend is one to pay some attention to. From clean and straightforward to loud and artsy, marble can change the look of your room. We would agree, a whole room in marble might be a bit much, but an accent wall?  Now we are talking. With endless colors to choose from, adding a wall of marble may be the perfect way to brighten up your interior and pull together an accent color theme in your room.  Visit us for help picking out the perfect marble wallpaper to add some chic to your interior. With this spring trend, you’re sure to add a sense of effortless and chic style that’s very classy, but if you’re thinking the marble look is not for you, wait until you see what’s next!

4. Wood Tile – Better Than You Think!

Kitchen in New Luxury Home

What a time to be alive. We can have marble in the form of wallpaper and wood in the form of tiles! If you are a rustic fan, you will like this trend. There are several benefits to wood tile rather than hardwood; it resists moisture, it does not need to be regularly polished, it has a warmer look than traditional tile, and is usable with many different décor styles – farmhouse lovers we are talking to you! There are several myths that wood tile does not last long, warps, and looks fake, don’t let that deter you; with a little research, you will learn what a perfect combination this is for our living spaces.

5. Dive Deep Into Blue This Season:

Deep Blues are making a comeback, and it is evident to see why. Accordingly, they are the perfect companion to the minimalism style, which has been trending for some time. If you are feeling a little blah about any of your interior spaces, add a drop of dark blue somewhere, and it will give you that fresh statement you are looking for. Where can I add such a dark color you say? Well, we have a few ideas! You can add a piece of accent furniture, such as an ottoman or loveseat, and don’t be afraid of velvet! Also, you can paint a blue accent wall, or even paint your front door a deep blue to show you are in with the trends this season!

These spring trends of 2017 don’t disappoint; we cannot wait to try them ourselves! It is incredible what a copper accent or a warm colored wood tile can do to freshen up your space for the warmer days ahead, and who does not love a gorgeous deep blue? Ah, we are in heaven!

In conclusion, if you are ready to choose that copper piece or pop of dark blue in your home you will want to talk to our design team!  Our in-store interior designers are excited to help you find what you need to get trendy this spring!
