Add color without a major makeover
Color is an amazing design element that doesn’t have to break the bank. In fact, it is one of those wonderful details that can be added in a variety of ways, simply. Spring is the perfect time to think about makeovers and I have a few tips to share with you on how to do that with color – simply! So let’s work together to find a few new ways to bring it all together with a POP of Color!
1. Go for big, colorful art…

Don’t be afraid to add large colorful accessories to your walls. One large piece may be all you need to get the juices flowing. A colorful canvas, wall tapestry or beautiful framed photography are good places to start. Or try arranging several smaller ones in a wall collage to create an impressive composition.
2. Use pillows and throws…

This is one of the easiest and least expensive ways to make your room pop with color. There are so many different patterns and colors that you can pair together. Try a chevron pattern with a floral or a diamond pattern with a stripe. Layer different sizes and shapes as well. Throw in a “throw” in your favorite color. This will even more interest to your room. The pairings are limitless!
3. Forgo the neutrals and go for window treatments in a crazy color…

Window treatments can be very versatile and serve as a soft backdrop to a room or add that pop of color and pattern that can’t go unnoticed. Try utilizing neutral colors in your large pieces of furniture and pop the color on the windows! There are so many styles of window treatments to choose from. If you’re looking for something minimal, valances or toppers may do the trick or if you want something more elaborate, try long panels that flank the sides of the windows. Decorative rods and rings add to the impact and complete the total look.
4. Don’ forget to add a colorful area rug to pull it all together…

An area rug can be the inspiration piece just as a piece of wall art. Begin or finish your ‘pop of color project’ with a colorful area rug. Rugs serve purposes other than adding color and texture to a room. They also add acoustics and comfort underfoot. Too many hardwood or tile surfaces in a home can create a cold feel and the echoing of sounds. Continue to add accessories and furniture using the colors from your inspiration piece in the ways mentioned above.
5. Fill your home with plants and floral arrangements…

I have found that this simple earthy addition of indoor plants creates warmth to a space and brings the outdoors in. Whether it’s live greenery or faux flower arrangements, this accessory creates a comfortable and relaxing feel to a room. Live indoor plants have been known also to create health benefits. So, don’t skip this step!
Pulling It All Together
Adding color to your home doesn’t have to be just bright and bold. If you’re not a big fan of bright colors, try some subtle touches of earthy warm colors to do the trick. Get creative and use your imagination to create the look you want and have fun with it! Open the curtains and let the light shine in and see just where you need a little brightness and pop to pull the whole room together. Adding color can add a statement or let every other element fall into place. It’s your home, so do it your way!
