In this blog I will take you through 6 benefits of hiring an interior designer. Some obvious and some not-so-obvious advantages to having an interior designer on your team.

1. Depth of Knowledge

Creating great spaces does not happen by accident. Some people have a gift for putting together rooms in a way that is pleasing to the eye, as well being functional. However, many people struggle with this. It seems so easy, but still, they cannot make it happen. When you hire an interior designer, you are not just getting someone who will make your home look good, but are getting someone with a depth of knowledge.

An interior designer has extensive knowledge and training in the industry. They will examine and plan a room design based on the principles and elements of design. In addition, an interior designer will help you solve problems and expand upon your ideas and preferences while keeping them in line with your taste and lifestyle.  We guide you on the best materials and longevity, and the best path to your dream home, when to save and when to splurge!

5. We Pay Attention to Your Tastes and Lifestyle

Now that we’ve revealed all the important behind-the-scenes things that interior designers do, let’s look at the design process itself. While you may wish for your home to look just like the ones in a magazine, the truth is that when it comes to designing your own home, you don’t want yours to look just like those. Your own personality and desires need to be expressed in your home.

We’ll help refine your style and aesthetic and learn what’s meaningful to you. We value your priorities and pay attention to what you need and want for your home. In addition, we’ll help you design your home so that it speaks to you and your personality.

6. Living the Dream

When your home is professionally designed to accommodate your lifestyle and help you live the way you’ve always wanted, that’s exactly what it does. Maybe you want your bedroom to have a spa like feel to it with a special space for your yoga stretches. Or your living room to be arranged for entertaining and intimate conversations. Whatever you want from your life we can help get you there so you can live the dream your way!

These 6 benefits of hiring an interior designer will help guide you on your way when designing or decorating your home, whether its one room or the whole house.

Lastly, I want you to know that my passion is helping my clients achieve their interior design goals. I love seeing their happy faces and hearing them say, “I finally feel at home in my own home”. Its a privilege to bring their homes to life that are functional and beautiful and one they want to come home to! I would love the opportunity to help you on your interior design journey!

Decorating Your Home During a Pandemic

No need to worry!

For many of us, interior design and redesign projects were halted when shelter-in-place orders went into effect as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Decorating your home during the pandemic isn’t easy and it’s only natural if you’re among those who want to make improvements to your home to be frustrated by this halt. People want to refresh their homes now more than ever and are aiming to make the most of their homes since we are spending more time at home. There has been an increase in people desiring to make home decor purchases over the past months. And many are asking for professional design assistance with home offices or asking for workstations to be incorporated into other rooms. In addition, there is a general trend of people trying to make their homes feel more comfortable and functional and don’t want to put projects on hold any longer.

It’s hard to find a silver lining, but if there’s one good thing that’s come from being quarantined, it’s the fact that we are being forced to slow down, reflect and get reacquainted with our homes. In doing this though, we are becoming more aware of the things that need updated or redecorated in our homes! In the past, we would typically spend most of our waking time at school or at work, but since classes and work meetings shifted to a virtual plain, we’re in our homes more now than ever! As a return to normal life seems uncertain, with the help of an interior designer there is still a way to complete your home decor projects and in a timely way. Interior Design Virtual Consultations are now being offered by some interior design companies (including ours!) and it’s a simple and easy way to get started.

Virtual Consultations So You Can Decorate During a Pandemic

The perfect way to decorate your home during a pandemic is to work with an interior designer who offers complete interior design virtual consultations. There is no personal contact involved so they’re safe but comprehensive. They provide you with the tools, knowledge and products you need to proceed with your home decor projects during this new era of social distancing.

How it Works

Interior Design Virtual Consultations are similar to in-home consultations, only everything is done virtually via email, video, text and virtual chats, and in a less time restrictive way. This is especially helpful during the COVID-19 pandemic where you can accomplish your decorating goals without leaving home and wherever you live in the country! It is also helpful if you have a busy home/work schedule and prefer to work on your design project at the times that best suit you.

Here’s what is typically included in an interior design virtual consultation. Suggestions and ideas on how to improve your rooms with furniture placement, color choices, lighting, accessorizing, window treatments, procurement of products that are needed and editing your existing accessories and furnishings. For more involved projects, 3-D renderings of your space are provided. This is a great way to learn how to update the appearance and functionality of your home. If you’re hoping to get your home decor project under way or if you’re in the middle of one and don’t want to put it on hold any longer, try one of our Interior Design Virtual Consultations. It really is the perfect way to decorate your home during a pandemic!

Modern Design Style

Many people hear “modern design style” and think cold, stark, and rigid. In truth, this design style is brimming with possibilities. There are many opportunities to use different colors, shapes, materials, and fabrics. If you’re planning on updating a room in your home, it’s important to consider how, when, and why you use the space, too. Check out the following modern living room decor ideas to get you started.

Modern Design Style Room Colors

modern, room, design, color, monochromatic. Near Springboro.
Monochromatic Color Scheme

1. Use a Monochromatic color scheme. One of the simplest ways to give your room a modern feel is to use a single color. Crisp ivory or exquisite ebony is a great place to start a room color palette. If you like more color try shades of cool blue or fiery orange. From there, find modern furniture in tints and tones of the same color. Mix up patterns and textures while maintaining the motif for a well designed look.

2. Bold is Better Although black and white decor are a modern design room staple, this style can also feature a vivid and varied palette. Keep the drama contained to some pillows, or proudly display a bright red sofa. To mimic the striking contrast as black and white, try other high-impact pairings like orange and blue.

3. Mixing Materials While classic rooms typically stick to one type of wood or metal, modern style room design offers more freedom. Warm things up and create some visual interest by combining contrasting finishes, such as a cool ash floor and a deep walnut entertainment center. Mix shiny, burnished brass with blackened, matte steel accents or bring together silver and gold for a hint of glam.

Modern Design Style Furniture

Use bold colorful accessories

4. Comfy but Classy Structural backs and straight arms are defining features of modern furniture, but there is still plenty of room for comfort, too. A linen upholstered sofa with clean lines and soft cushions offers the best of both worlds. Stylish armchairs covered in supple leather are another easy way to incorporate cozy sophistication.

5. Make a Statement Create a focal point by adding a bold, unexpected element to your modern living room. Complement contemporary furniture by mounting a large sculpture or wall art over the sofa. Asymmetrical placement of a bold, geometric coffee table or bookshelf can also produce an eye-catching look that’s undeniably modern.

Add unique accessories and glass tables

6. Mix and Match Think outside the box by combining natural and unique items.. An eclectic, textured mixture of stone, cotton, glass, and steel keeps your eye moving around the room. Highlight the convergence of different materials by positioning mirror-finished end tables alongside a maple television console.

Modern Design Style Accessories

7. Keep it Simple During this time of having low-key gathering of friends, people always seem to congregate in the kitchen or living room. A big sectional sofa provides plenty of space to sit and chat. Position a few end tables within arm’s reach for guests to place their drinks. Glass tops and metal frames maintain a streamlined, modern look to the room and they’re easy to clean!

8. For the Kids If you have children, you know they factor into every decision, especially home decor. Take the stress out of the inevitable spills and messes with easy-to-clean leather upholstery. Spread out a patterned or plush performance area rug so the kids have a safe place to play. To keep things tidy, use a hidden storage ottoman as a place to stash toys at the end of the day.

9. No Place Like Home If you would rather stay in than go out on the town, a comfy modern living room is perfect. Bring the movie theater home while maintaining the sleek style of your space with a floating TV console. Mount the television over a fireplace for a laid back focal point, and toss some colorful throw pillows onto the contemporary reclining sofa to lounge in luxury.

Pulling it All Together

The list of Modern Style room design ideas is endless since it’s all about finding what works for you. Begin by applying the basic principles of modern design: clean, not fussy, and open. Then, let the creativity flow. Pick from the vast pool of colors and styles to develop your modern living room.

Can a pop of color make you happy?

How color affects us-mind and body benefits

Color has been around forever it seems, but it was the early Egyptians who studied the power of colors and applied it to every aspect of life and their lives. Color art that we practice today, whether it’s adding a pop of color in the paint we choose for our walls, the fabric we choose for fabric for our draperies, or the wall art we add to our living room wall, has its origins dated nearly 2,000 years ago.

There are three components of color. The actual hue or color such as red, blue, or green. Then there is saturation which is how rich and pure a color is and finally, brightness which is how close it is to white. Highly saturated colors are energizing while brightness is calming.

So just how does adding a pop of color affect our lives? The components of color affect our lives by making us feel happy, calm and energized. Add a pop of color with a large, medium and small dose of color in every room. Here are some to tips on how to use your favorite colors when decorating your home.

Warm Up with Yellow

If your house is drafty or the area you live in is chilly or your room is oversized, use yellow touches to warm things up. Using a sunny shade can make you feel warmer which is why using yellow for entryways or mudrooms is a great way to make you feel comfortable as soon as you walk in!

Create with Green

If you look at nature, you’ll find that the main hue is green, the color of creativity. Green has been known to bump up people’s performance on a creative task. From soft sage to Kelly green, all shades have been linked to creativity and creative thinking.  So, before you start that project, take a walk in nature or paint your craft room a shade of green. And be sure to place your office desk near a window for a brain boost!

Energize with Red

Red is a very emotionally intense color. It is associated with energy, strength, power and passion. Use red in your home where there is activity such as the family room or in your workout room. You can even paint an accent wall and pair it with neutrals in the bedroom.  Green is a compliment to red so you can use green to balance out red in a room.

Cool off with Blue

Genius ideas sometime come to you “out of the blue”. The reason is blue has been linked to a sense of openness and problem solving. So, when you’re looking for an answer to a difficult problem or dilemma, look up in the sky on a clear day. The answer may just pop into your mind! Blue is also associated with tranquility because we relate it to the ocean and the sky. In addition, it can influence your body by making you feel cool when you walk into a blue room.  Think about adding blue to your home where you want a relaxing and open feel.

Get excited with Orange

Orange is associated with meanings of joy, warmth, heat, sunshine, enthusiasm, and success. It also promotes emotional energy. This color works well in kitchens and dining room where the energy is usually social and active. Try painting a feature wall in your kitchen or dining rooms to entice the appetite! Orange is also associated with heat as in the summer sun or autumn harvest. If you have an extra-large area that you want to “warm up”, try a rich saturated shade of orange.

A pop of color is wonderful but remember it’s OK to love your white walls! You can always add a splash of color in your accessories. There is no right or wrong color.  It’s what you love that makes for a happy, beautiful and comfortable home.

Amazing Decorating Trends for 2020

The start of a new decade is a perfect time to try fresh decorating trends. Whether you’re thinking about a minor refresh or a total renovation, you’ll want to take a peek at these trends to see if any of them will play a part in your home decorating for this year. You can make a very simple change by adding a new piece of art to your gallery wall. But if you want to make a more impactful change then try one of these hot home decorating ideas. After researching many of the trends that we will be seeing this year, I’m sure there will be at least one idea you’ll want to try.

Color of the Year!

One of the most noticeable decorating trends for 2020 will be color! Sherwin Williams and Pantone, two of the nation’s leading paint companies have both introduced the color of the year to be different versions of navy blue.  Yes, it’s back but in a different way. Sherwin William’s version called Naval is a “rich navy that creates a calm and grounding environment infused with quiet confidence”. On the other hand, Pantone’s version called Classic Blue will be “instilling calm, confidence, and connection, this enduring blue hue highlights our desire for a dependable and stable foundation on which to build as we cross the threshold into a new era.” Navy provides the perfect amount of contrast in both traditional and modern interiors. In addition, it is considered a dark neutral, so it pairs well with a variety of other colors.

Color of the year

Floral Wallpaper

If you cringe at the thought of floral wallpaper, then this may be the year that changes your mind. Floral wallpaper has been a classic for years, but now you will see the pretty pattern with a twist. Large scale patterns in bold color and even some with metallic versions will be quite noticeable this year. You’ll find these pretty colors and patterns in foyers and in bathrooms primarily. But don’t skip over a beautiful dining room if it calls for a statement look with this decorating trend!

Free Standing Tubs

Another trend that is emerging is the enlarged shower stalls, free-standing tubs, and painted bathroom cabinets. These are a just few of the new bathroom trends you’ll see in home decor and remodeling for 2020. Whether you love trends or will typically go to great lengths to avoid them, these changes will add value to your home and give it a very updated look. So, get started!

Free standing bathroom tubs

Rattan and Wicker Furniture

Another decorating trend for 2020 is the come back of rattan and wicker. Rattan and wicker are popping up everywhere! I love to see this trend re-emerging. From furniture to baskets, to round ottomans and lighting, this look warms up a space with texture in a fresh and exciting way. It’s a great balance between modern and traditional style. This is another way to start fresh for 2020.

wicker-furniture-decorating-trend

Vintage Accents

Don’t expect to see vintage everywhere, but you will see accents showing up in spindles, spooled legs, and other details from the early 1800’s and 1900’s. History has a way of repeating itself, but always in fresh new ways! Use it sparingly instead of incorporating it into the entire style your home.

Spooled legs

This year will bring fresh decorating ideas and unusual elements to the interior design world. I’m very excited to start the new year with these trends in mind. Keep your eye out for these big changes!

Transitioning Your Home from Summer to Fall Decor

fall-decorating-home-decor-autumn-decor
Autumn Beauty

When the days start getting shorter and the nights cooler more than just your wardrobe needs to start transitioning from the “Dog Days of Summer” to the cool days of Fall. Here are a few quick and easy ways to transition your home from summer’s cool decor to the warm earthy fall decor.

Fall Vignette

Want to start small with introducing fall decor into your home? Then try adding a vignette in your foyer. Use a mix of beautiful ceramics and vintage pieces with accents of natural elements, including pine cones and rustic items like twigs from outdoors. In addition, vary heights and colors to allow the eye to flow easily across the vignette.

Autumn entry table

Fall Table Décor

You don’t have to go over the top to bring a fall-inspired look to your interior space. It can be as simple as decorating your dining table with small pumpkins and a pedestal dish. Place a tall floral centerpiece with autumn colors in the center to add height to the space.

Autumn table centerpiece

Harvest Elegance

Although fall decor is normally associated with a rustic design scheme, it can still bring elegance to your home. Instead of the expected orange pumpkins, try displaying white pumpkins at varying heights for a more sophisticated look. Stagger pumpkins on a stack of old books and vintage candlesticks to add visual interest to a mantel or table.

Elegant white pumpkins

Getting Cozy

With cooler temperatures in the air, now is the perfect time to add a fur throw to your favorite chair or sofa. Layer some pillows in this fall’s popular colors to stay trendy. Fall decor doesn’t have to be pricey or extravagant. A touch here and there can set the tone of the season.

Autumn color in pillows

Add Seasonal Color

Do you want to add a punch of fall color to your home? Hang a colorful tapestry on the wall or invest in a colorful chair or sofa for starters. You’ll be amazed how it changes the feel and energy of a room. And don’t forget to add a colorful rug to tie it all together! Remember to add a few accessories in the same colors to unify the space. This will help achieve a smooth transition from summer to fall decor.

Colorful Accent Chair

Now that your home is all ready for fall you can enjoy spending some time outdoors during this wonderful time of the year.

Classic or Modern Farmhouse Style?

What’s the difference?

Almost everyone loves the look and feel of a cozy farmhouse style. Back in the day the early settlers utilized elements from their surroundings which satisfied their need for sturdy, practical furnishings. Farmhouse style has stood the test of time and evolved into a more modern but still very functional look.

Here are some defining differences between Classic Farmhouse and Modern Farmhouse style.

farm-house-style-natural-wood-furniture-ch-interior designs-waynesville-ohio
Natural Wood Furniture

Characteristics of Classic Farmhouse Style

  • Natural wood accents: The very first element is wood! It was abundant and therefore, became the natural building material. Many farm homes had paneled wood walls, wide-plank floors and exposed wood beams. The current classic farmhouse style often uses barn board or ship lap for paneling and wood for countertops.
  • Kitchen Apron sinks: The kitchen was the gathering place and still is today. Most kitchens had an apron sink. In a classic farmhouse, this sink is usually porcelain.
  • Furniture and accessories: Vintage furnishings are an easy way to decorate in classic farmhouse style. It’s best if they’re not in perfect condition and they could even have weathered finishes. Vintage style lighting looks ideal in a classic farmhouse especially the ones with a little bling!
  •  Fabrics Selections: Floral and paisley, ticking and plaid echo Classic Farmhouse for sure. Use them on window treatments, pillows or slipcovers.

Characteristics of Modern Farmhouse Style

  • Modern Touches: Take the comfortable, relaxed farmhouse style and add a cleaner look.
  • Accents and Accessories: To achieve this look add smooth lines, glossy accents and neutral color schemes.
  • Use Contemporary Design: Modern farmhouse is more sophisticated and uses contemporary design elements like stainless steel appliances, granite countertops and sleek lighting and cleaner lines in furniture.
  • Practicality: When designing a Modern Farmhouse design, keep in mind, furnishing and accessories should be comfortable and practical. In addition, you want them to welcome you into the room, and things shouldn’t be too fussy. The room should look like it evolved over time.
  • Stay with a neutral palette: Choose a neutral palette to make the room appear fresh and open. Cool or warm neutrals such as cream, beige, silver and grey all work well and balance natural elements. Equally important, is to keep patterns simple and contemporary and be sure to bring depth to the space with a variety of textures. Rugs, baskets and natural objects work well here.
  •  Industrial touches: With modern farmhouse style you can also add touches of the industrial style for an updated current look. For example, use a stainless-steel apron sink and appliances. The same goes for lighting, add a chandelier and pendants that have a sleek and more modern look.

Top Summer Decorating Trends

Freshen up for summer!

Need a change? Try these Top Summer Decorating Trends

Summer has officially arrived, and this is a good time to start thinking about bringing the top summer decorating trends into your home for easy room updates.

Begin this season with some of CH Interior Designs’ top summer home decorating trends that are sure to brighten your summer days and nights as we move towards the warmer months ahead.

Here’s a look at some of the things you may want to consider when taking in the top summer decorating trends of this year. Whether its adding splashes of color on your walls or switching out your window treatments to painting your front door, you’re bound to find something that will brighten your home for summer!

Energize with Color

summer-decorating- trends-paint-colors-color-consultation-ch interior designs
Which one will you choose

Open the drapes and blinds to allow all the natural light in. Then add a vibrant splash of color to bring summer indoors. This season, summer home decor is all about bright, saturated colors and you can achieve a summery decor look without having to spend serious amounts of time and money.

It could be a new set of bold, patterned throw pillows to liven up your chairs and sofas, a colorful one of a kind lamp to make a change from the usual neutrals, or a refreshing piece of artwork that focuses on your favorite summer color combinations. If too much color isn’t your thing, try blending some soft neutrals with some unusual textures and just a hint of your favorite color to make your space interesting.

Who loves Animal Prints?

animal -print-trends-animal-print-fabric-chair-furniture-chinterior-designs
Safari print Chair

Even if you’re not an animal lover, striking animal prints are a great way to bring the feel and energy of the outdoors into your summer home decorating updates. Nothing reminds you of the sun more than a vibrant animal print, like leopard or zebra. Think accent chair or an accessory with a playful take on animal prints.

You could even go for some animal themed wall art to set off your space perfectly with a touch of the exotic for a refreshed take on everyday glamor. Keep the look minimal with your animal prints, so the look stays clean and pared back. A little goes a long way!

White Wood is a Great Summer Decorating Trend

summer-home-decorating-trends-white-leather-chair-white-wood-home-decor-ch interior designs
Brighten up with white!

A great way to brighten a room and embrace summer home decorating trends is to switch out your dark wood furniture for fresh white options. Go for white painted wood if your in the market for new furniture or cabinets so your home feels lighter and brighter. But if you want to make use of your current furniture, then it’s time to get out the paintbrushes and start some easy ‘Do It Yourself’ updates.

If you don’t want to go through all the work, opt for some white throws to drape over dark wood sofas and chairs, to give your room a brightness boost. This way, any room in your home will also appear larger.

Summery Patterns

summer-home-decorating-trends-fabric-ocean-blue-floral-patterns
Try colors of the ocean for a summery change

A summery pattern is a great way to get on board with summer home decorating. Choose bright colors and bold patterns and prints, allowing you to bring a splash of summer in throughout your home. From pretty florals to fresh yellow-green geometrics to bold and eclectic prints and patterns, the options are endless. Step out your comfort zone here and have some fun with it!

Consider some fresh throw pillows or switch up your upholstery. Or you can even amp up your summer outdoor home decor with some new lounge chairs. Opt for a more season-less approach when it comes to outdoor décor.  Go for a more minimal look on summer prints and patterns by sourcing muted pastels and soothing watercolor-inspired prints.

Sunny Yellow

home-decor-trends-yellow-accents-home-decor-ch interior designs
Decorate with yellow for summer

Yellow, what a happy color! It is the undisputed dominant color of summer, so use hints of it everywhere throughout your home. Don’t be shy, go for yellow soft furnishings, yellow accessories, and yellow wherever else you can squeeze it in. From soft, light yellows, to bold citric and strong mustard tones, there is so much scope for yellow in summer home decorating trends.

Perfect for an accent wall and entire rooms alike, yellow is the epitome of summer. But since the season unfortunately passes so quickly, I suggest going for minimal splashes of yellow, like in pillows and ceramics as well as fresh flowers. These touches ensure that it’ll never go out of style or look out of place, no matter the season.

Oh, That Front Door!

summer-home-decorating-trends-front-door-paint-color-consultation-ch interior designs
Perk up your entry door!

Does your front door need a face lift? So many of them take a beating from the weather. A fun summer home decorating trend that I’m seeing more of, is vividly painted doors. Doors are often overlooked when it comes to interior design. While this idea offers something not often thought of, it will liven up the entire entry of your home as it’s such a unique option!

Choose an inviting lively yellow, or blue or even something like an orange or a pink. You don’t have to go for a color which is too bright here, as it’s not something you see every day. Even pastel shades will work wonders for updated summer home decor. If your  front door  is in good shape try repainting it to really make a defining statement.

Brighter Window Treatments

summer-home-decorating-trends-light-bright-sheers-draperies-panels -ch interior designs
Light and Bright Sheers! Lets in the light

Summer is the time to shed those heavy, insulating curtains and replace them with something light and airy to let the sunshine in. You want to be able to let the light in but still be able to block out the sun when it’s hot that comes with summer days. I love a soft flowing sheer white curtain when it comes to a savvy summer home decorating idea for the windows.

This look gives you the lightness and brightness, you’re craving while blocking out the worst of the midday sun. And the best thing about sheer white window treatment panels is that they make for an affordable update that will never go out of style.

This is the Easiest Way to Brighten Things Up for Summer

summer-home-decorating-trendspaint-colors-color-consultation-home-interiors-interior-design-ch interior designs
What a difference paint makes!

Just remember when it comes to updating your summer home decor, a lighter color scheme will always feel refreshing and soothing while revitalizing the energy. One of the least expensive and most effective ways to completely transform any room is through a fresh coat of paint.

Whether you go for soothing neutrals, or an accent wall featuring a completely unexpected, mood-enhancing color, you can almost never go wrong with a fresh coat of paint. And I say almost because while it’s great to bring in a unique hue, you’ll almost certainly tire of it and you’ll find that it limits your other summer home decor choices. So, opt for something with a timeless appeal that won’t affect a potential resell of your home.

Simple outdoor decorating and entertaining ideas!

Temperatures are rising and summer is showing its refreshing face, and that means longer days, more sunshine, and extra outdoor living with family and friends. Here are some ways to make the most of the better weather and how to incorporate outdoor decorating and entertaining ideas to your space based on your summer style!

1. For a relaxed and laid-back outdoor feel, opt for some comfortable outdoor seating and add strawberry mint margaritas to the mix!

Summer is here and you’re probably already planning those outdoor gatherings with your friends and family while soaking in the sun. If you’re going to be spending a lot of time outdoors, you’ll need comfortable seating. Try an outdoor sofa – or two – which makes conversation with guests much easier and fun. In addition, try a couple of outdoor accent chairs and a pop of color with some accent pillows, and yours is sure to be the favorite outdoor haven this summer.

Here’s a recipe for a refreshing drink to serve while your grill master is cooking up the food!

Strawberry Mint Margarita

Sweet and tangy this recipe serves 4

  • 1 cup of strawberries
  • 1 cup of tequila
  • Handful of fresh mint leaves
  • Ice
  • ½ cup of lime juice
  • Agave syrup (optional, to taste)

2. For a family style outdoor entertaining area, try a large farmhouse style table, perfect for serving all of your favorite summertime recipes.

If you are planning on entertaining the whole family plus more, you’ll need a table big enough to accommodate the entire crew. A farmhouse table is the perfect choice. Mix it up a little with different chairs and bench seating to help accommodate lots of little ones while giving adults their own spot at the table. And remember to pick a bouquet of fresh flowers from the garden to use for a beautiful centerpiece. Most importantly, use a family-sized grill to help you cook a large amount of food at once so everyone can eat at the same time.

3. If your outdoor style is quaint and colorful, then bright outdoor rugs and watermelon might be a good fit for you.

If you want to add welcoming color, add a colorful outdoor rug to a deck space or covered patio. It will add energy and whimsy to any outdoor space. Not only are these rugs fun and beautiful, but they are easy to clean and light weight for storage purposes.  Without a doubt, these rugs will make your outdoor spaces feel cozy and inviting!

About watermelon

Watermelon is a popular summer food – it’s sweet, juicy, and usually big enough to share with large groups of people. But more than just a good cool off, watermelon is 92 percent water and contains antioxidants and vitamins such as vitamin A and vitamin C. Try making your watermelon extra special, use cookie cutters to create fun shapes. Or for another fun surprise try grilling it as a side dish!

I Feel Overwhelmed With Decorating My Home!

how-to-decorate-my-home-interior-design-home-decor

No worries! You’re not alone.

Are you one of the many people who feel overwhelmed with the decorating process of your home? Over the years I have helped many clients design and decorate their  homes. Some projects were large and some were “just moved in” projects.  And do you want to know the number one thing every single one of them had in common? The feeling of being overwhelmed.

Decorating and designing your home, whether it’s one room or the whole house, can be an overwhelming thing to do on your own. There are so many things to consider and coordinate.  Where do I buy things? Where do I hang wall art? Which patterns compliment each other? What color palette do I want to begin with? How do I arrange my furniture? And, although there are some exceptional design resources at our fingertips today, all the checklists in the world do not take away the feeling of being overwhelmed when doing it on your own.  Having someone who is like a good friend to walk you through it can smooth the way through whole process!

You Don’t Know What You Can’t See

Redesigning the interior of a home or room looks so easy on The HGTV channel.  I too watch with amazement at how everything seems to just miraculously fall into place!  But I also know, that nothing miraculously falls into place, ever! There are many steps in between the photo shoots that you don’t see to make the project come together.

It would be fun to have one of the star-studded designers come into your home while you stand by and watch as their team disassembles and then reassembles the entire place while being filmed. But trust me, most people prefer to sit down with a professional and explore ideas of what is possible for their space, on their budget, and in their time frame.

Talking with a professional interior designer about your interior design or decorating project is not a difficult task.  It is our job to break down into step-by-step increments all that you wish to accomplish.  And no two projects ever have the same details, so don’t feel discouraged to ask more about what you don’t understand or what you really want to happen. the more information I receive from you the closer we will arrive at your desired result. It is your home, your life and what you do inside of that space should reflect you, your budget and your style.

What Actually Happens When You Meet With a Professional Interior Designer?

Selection of colors and materials for design and home renovation

Many people shy away from seeking advice from a professional interior designer because they think it will be difficult to get the look they want, over budget, and time-consuming. After twenty years of designing interiors, I assure you that every project needs a plan that covers these concerns and that is where I begin.

Step One:

decorating- to do list-home-decor-consultation

Whether you have a large or small project, I begin by asking questions and listening to your design needs, budgetary concerns, and desires for your home.  This is our chance to get to know one another and fully embrace who you are and what you are hoping to achieve in your project.

Step Two:

Once we have a general idea of your design goals I create a design concept plan and organize that plan and present options to you. Then the fun begins!  We start by choosing color schemes, furniture layouts, and determining the products and styles that will fit with your plan. I continually help guide you through the decision making process. The greatest part about working with a professional interior designer too, is that we have so many resources to choose from that are not available elsewhere. This helps tremendously in getting the look you want for your home. And that is the part of the process that is like the TV shows; professional designers understand what you need and know exactly where to get what you want!

Step Three:

After working to put together products, materials and a layout that meet your needs, we begin to finalize your project. However, many times these ideas and suggestions spark a whole new plan or an idea you haven’t considered before, especially if you find something in the mix that is a must have! We can always make adjustments along the way, all you are doing is making the choices that are right for you and your home.  I cannot stress how amazing this part of the process is for clients because they realize how much time and energy they have saved instead of struggling on their own. That is why projects can be completed with a set framework. It is not just “weekend shopping”, it is a professional designer’s full-time job to get your project done so you can really start living in your home!

Where Do I Begin To Plan My Project?

It’s as easy as 1,2,3! If you feel overwhelmed by all there is to accomplish in your home or if you just need some tips and guidance for your DIY project and would like the guidance of a professional and experienced designer to sit down and talk with you about your design goals,  please reach out to me!
