Spring Tips to Refresh Your Home

It’s going to be warming up here next week, and you know what that means! Time to open the windows, let some fresh air in, and start the spring cleaning and updating you’ve put off during your winter nesting. Here are some spring tips to refresh your home and inspirational ideas to get you started.

Edit Your Space

Go through your coffee table books, get a new tray and organize your jewelry, rearrange your bookshelf. Clean your windows for each room in your house.  For the kitchen, I love reorganizing my pantry and spices. This time of year, it is also the perfect time to update your fixtures. This is so much easier than switching out large furniture. Fixtures are like the finishing touches of jewelry paired with a nice outfit. Sometimes just getting an updated finish on your chandeliers helps tremendously. If you’re not sure about mixing metals, opt for a champagne finish on the lighting, or a natural material (like shell, resin, or glass).”

Switch things Around

Give your rooms a refreshing spring look by switching your throw pillows out. For instance, choose two sets for your living room or family room – a warm, rust/orange taupe set that is perfect for autumn and winter. When spring comes, change over to a soft teal, purple or other light colors to lighten up your rooms. In addition, start some herb or flower sprouts on a sunny windowsill as a great reminder that spring and summer are on their way! When you live in a colder climate, you don’t really need an excuse to embrace spring whole heartily!

Bedroom Change Up

Spring is such a special time of year. It is filled with light and life and it offers us all a period for reflection and renewal. Likewise, it is always inspiring to freshen up the spaces where you spend a lot of time. Although it’s not always seen by guests, your bedroom is where you kick off your shoes, unwind with a good book, and rest your head, making it a very significant space. You can make a dramatic change by simply changing your bedding based on the season. Change out dark, heavy fabrics for lighter, more airy blends and darker hues for calmer, cooler ones, instantly you’ve just transformed your cozy winter cave into your light and bright spring-time sanctuary. On the topic of light and airy fabrics, you may also want to take a look at your windows too. If they’re framed by a dense, moody fabric you might be missing out on that gorgeous, natural spring light that lends everything it touches a nice, healthy glow. Next, add a drapery in a soft linen blend and your home will feel refreshed in a flash.

Renovate

In addition to spring cleaning, spring is the perfect time to start a renovation project. The first room to consider is the kitchen. With the average person spending up to 80% of their time in the kitchen (and even more during COVID) —cooking, cleaning, entertaining—it’s often the first room I recommend upgrading. In 2021, we expect to see people opting for more serene—yet still happy and uplifting. Soft teal, celedon and oyster white are a few of the colors you will be seeing in homes and kitchens throughout the year. However, we also expect to see some brighter hues such as yellow to compliment the grey tones or choose a shade from the coral family to pop things up a bit. Refresh your cabinets by having them hand-painted on site. To use a professional painter and high-quality paint in a flat/semi-matte eggshell finish.

The second room to consider updating is the bathroom.  Nothing freshens up a bathroom more than a fresh coat of paint. Have your bathroom cabinets painted as well and add a unique mirror and lighting fixture.  Make it pop with some colorful wall art and plush towels. You’ll be amazed at the transformation!

Let the fresh air and sunshine in as you tackle your spring cleaning and updating this year. Toss out the old and bring in the fresh and the new. These spring tips and inspirational ideas will help you bring new life to your home!

Happy Decorating!
